Preventing dengue in a globalized world with courage and creativity.
Growing international mobility is not only building new social, economic, and cultural connections. It also facilitates the spread of pathogens and increases the prevalence of certain infectious diseases, even in those regions that are not endemic.
Un viaje de ida y vuelta (A round trip journey) is the dengue prevention awareness campaign that iPg ACCESS developed, in collaboration with the biopharmaceutical company Takeda, to inform international travelers about the measures they can take before, during, and after traveling to countries with high rates of infection.
Learn now, fly later
How can we inform international travelers months before they fly?
We offered campaign materials to the embassies and consulates of those countries with high rates of dengue so they could inform their citizens at their offices or through their websites.
With their help, we have successfully conveyed the message that the journey begins here, by visiting the nearest International Vaccination Center to learn how to protect yourself from dengue and other infectious diseases.
Tailoring the campaign to each country’s national colors and delivering it through diplomatic missions in Spain are not the only reasons that make Un viaje de ida y vuelta a unique project.
Keys of an effective awareness campaign
1. Identify your key audiences
Proper segmentation allows us to tailor the message and maximize its impact. Un viaje de ida y vuelta is specifically targeted at Spanish residents whose countries of origin have a high prevalence of dengue. The campaign and its presentation have, in addition, enabled us to establish contact with national and regional health authorities.
2. Align your strategy with your message
Un viaje de ida y vuelta draws inspiration from mid-20th-century airline advertising and, more broadly, from the experience of flying. Using artificial intelligence, we created an illustration of an airplane in pastel tones. We incorporated the recommended preventive measures into a boarding pass.
With the tagline “Before you travel, get informed,” we launched a brief and concise visual narrative about the global risk and the connection between the origin and destination countries of international travelers.
3. Foster government collaboration
Adapting the color scheme to each country’s national colors encourages consulates and embassies to embrace the campaign and share it through their channels.
Prior outreach has allowed us to align messages, build trust, and expand the campaign’s reach.
4. Create useful and actionable materials
The video, banners, and posters for Un viaje de ida y vuelta share a practical approach: providing clear information that enables citizens to take preventive measures before, during, and after travel. Because public-private collaboration must also take a seat at the table.

A practical case of public health communication
Un viaje de ida y vuelta is an example of a health awareness campaign that combines strategy, collaboration, and a practical approach to generate a real positive impact.
